Where Do I Get My Inspiration for Flavor Pairing?

My biggest inspiration for flavor pairings comes from two places: my garden and my travels to Southeast Asia. Whenever I visit Vietnam, I make it a point to go beyond the typical tourist spots.

My journey always begins in Saigon—now known as Ho Chi Minh City—where my cousin plays the perfect tour guide. But instead of sightseeing, I tell her, “Take me to the countryside. I want to experience the real flavors—local food and, most importantly, fruits.”

My love for fruit is beyond obsession. If I had to survive on just one type of food, it would be fruit. Every trip to Vietnam deepens this love, introducing me to flavors and textures unlike anything found in the U.S. I still remember the first time I tasted cherimoya—pure heaven. The creamy texture, the floral aroma, the intense sweetness—it was unlike any fruit I had ever tried. And that was just the beginning. I indulged in so many exotic fruits on this trip, each one expanding my palate and inspiring new kombucha flavors.

Of course, the best part of these trips isn’t just the fruit—it’s spending time with my cousins and family, sharing meals, stories, and laughter. But every time I return home, I bring back more than just memories. I bring back flavors, ideas, and a renewed passion for crafting unique, East-meets-West kombucha infusions.

One thing you should know about me is that I am always willing to try different fruits.
